It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself. -- Thomas Jefferson

Opinion: The 2016 Election

The Beginning of the End

Perhaps no presidential election in our lifetime, has been more contentious and divisive as the one now taking shape for 2016.

Both of the two major parties have never produced such weak and questionable candidates for the highest office in the land as they have with such less than illustrious candidates in the persons of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Donald Trump.

With a population of over 300,000,000 people, one would hope that a nation of this size could somehow produce a crop of candidates that the nation as a whole could place some trust in.

Instead we have forced upon us a group of people as candidates who would be much better suited to be on a wanted poster than a campaign flyer.

We have a candidate in Hillary Clinton whose main objectives are that she should be elected because she would be the first woman elected president, or because she feels that it is her “turn” to sit behind the desk in the Oval Office. No one’s qualifications for president should be predicated by gender or the misguided notion that it is somehow their “turn” to hold that office. Ones “turn” at something is usually relegated to games and not in the real life world of politics where the determining factors should be ability, experience, and character. Anything less is detrimental to that office and is most definitely detrimental to the nation as a whole.

Then we have a candidate in Bernie Sanders who generally always voted with the Democrat Party during his tenure in Washington, ran as an Independent, and is a self avowed Socialist. That is until he decided to run for President as a Democratic candidate. A man, who like most of his followers, does not have an understanding of the most basic economics, yet he, and especially his followers stop their critical thinking when they hear the words “free”, and either ignore or don’t care that the “free” he promises would only lead to economic slavery to taxes and government dependance for us, our children, and our grandchildren.

Last, but not least, we have a candidate in Donald Trump who is willing to say anything and do anything to get elected to the office of President of the United States. A man who can blatantly denigrate minorities, women, and the disabled, and get away with it. A man who talks in a loud, arrogant braggadocio, and gives his supporters his policies in such general, shallow terms, that even he doesn’t know what his policies and plans are. Indeed, when he is questioned about those policies, like the quintessential politician his answers ramble in a broad expanse of nothingness that never reveals just what his ideas are. Thus leaving one to come to the conclusion that all he has are general talking points, and hasn’t given his own vague, vapid statements any real thought. Yet his supporters will laugh, applaud and cheer, and with their mob mentality defend with their dying breaths the glaringly obvious shortcomings of their chosen one, even when those shortcomings and actions should alarm even the most dim witted amongst us.

There was once a time in this country of ours, when those we elected to the office of President, were statesmen...leaders…moral...those in whom we placed our trust and believed that whatever they did they did because they thought it best for us, and our country. People who led by example, and not people who make a mockery of everything that is good, noble, and decent like today’s leaders.

Now all we can see is that statesmanship is dead. Like the Roman Empire before us, we have leaders who place themselves above the good of the United States and all Americans. Leaders who are characters instead of having character. Leaders who throw off all semblance of morality and fairness, because morality and fairness don’t matter to Americans anymore. Americans don’t want morality and fairness. They want lies and half-truths. They want all that they can get and future generations be damned.

Is this what we want? Is this what we want for our children and our grandchildren, and their children after them? Is this what America has become?

God save the United States of America.

A person knocked on the door of her home and when she answered she was abducted by 4 men and placed into a taxi which sped away. Her grandfather Joseph, who is a priest, chased the taxi on foot and grabbed on to the door, but as the taxi sped away he could not hold on and fell to the side. A man riding a bicycle witnessed the incident and followed the taxi. He recorded the license plate of the car and returned and gave it to Fr. Joseph.

CHINA Kong Zhenlan, a mother to dozens of orphaned and abandoned children - Asia News

CINA_-_0428_-_Adozioni_cattoliche_(F)

The following excerpts are from AsiaNews.it:

Jiuji (AsiaNews/Ucanews) – For the past 42 years, Kong Zhenlan, a Catholic in China's Shanxi province, has been bringing up handicapped orphans and abandoned children along with her own kids, and that has inspired one of her sons to become a Catholic priest.

Kong's son Father Anthony Fan Changliang says the adoption of orphans is related to a local tradition in their Jiuji Catholic village in Qi County.

Before the communist revolution in 1949, the ancient Catholic parish in the village maintained a tradition of charity to help the orphans.

In the two decades that followed the revolution this noble tradition and all the charity works were stopped as religions were oppressed, Catholics say.

In the 1970s, there was an increase of abandoned children but there was no orphanage. Father Fan said that in 1977 his mother began to adopt abandoned and handicapped orphans.

The lack of medical care and children’s poor health made mortality rate quite high, said Father Fan, who was a teenage at the time. The deaths of some children and the unbearable financial burden on the family saddened him.

For a while, he said, he lost the faith. But the words of his mother made him think deeper. "To love the poor is to love Jesus. Each of the kid is a little brother, a little Jesus. When we take care of our little brothers, we are taking care of Jesus," she used to say.

Only after graduating from the novitiate did Father Fan fully understand and support his mother's mission, he said.

We are all brothers and sisters, there is no difference," he said when asked how many biological and adopted brothers and sisters he has. "It is a blessing" that his mother is able to give love to the kids, "a love with faith, and she enjoys doing it," he said.

Since the age of 24, Kong and her husband Fan Bucheng have been engaged in this charitable activity. Now, they are both 66-years old.

Bill to legalize euthanasia in Peru draws criticism :: EWTN News

The following excerpts are from EWTN News:

A bill introduced in Peru to legalize euthanasia has met with harsh criticism from a cancer doctor who said that it fails to respect human life and dignity.

Dr. Luis Raez, director of the Memorial Cancer Institute (MCI) in Broward County, Florida, told EWTN News that although “de-penalizing euthanasia does not sound so bad,” what is really being sought is the legalization of murder.

This attempt to legalize euthanasia will cause terrible harm to those who are ill,” warned Raez, who also serves as an associate professor at Florida International University.

The legislative proposal was entered for processing in the Peruvian Congress March 4, with the title “Law that de-penalizes mercy killing and that declares that the implementation of euthanasia is a need of the public and in the national interest.”

The document was signed by parliament members Roberto Angulo, Juan Pari, Eulogio Romero, Sergio Tejada, Esther Saavedra, Claudia Coari and Jorge Rimarachin.

Congresswomen Coari and Tejada have in the past voiced support for legalizing abortion as well.

The euthanasia bill is in the hands of the Constitution and Rules Committee and the Justice and Human Rights Committee for debate and a vote. If it passes this stage, it will be examined by the full Peruvian Congress.

Australian bishops: the suffering need compassion, not suicide by drugs :: EWTN News

The following excerpts are from EWTN News:

Euthanasia isn’t what the suffering and dying really need, said Australia’s Catholic bishops.

Suicide is always a tragedy, and all people who are confronted by their mortality, whether or not they are mentally or physically ill, deserve our help and compassion, not a lethal dose,” Bishop Peter Comensoli of Broken Bay said in an April 15 statement.

All people have dignity regardless of their health, age, disability, usefulness or other circumstance and deserve our love and support.”

Bishop Comensoli is the Australian bishops’ delegate on assisted suicide issues. He said the bishops conference’s new pamphlet, “Real care, love and compassion – the alternative to euthanasia,” aims to inform people about the dangers of legalized euthanasia.

Euthanasia is illegal in Australia. However, there are lobbying efforts to legalize voluntary euthanasia, which its backers characterize as “dying with dignity.”

OPINION: Greed and the Holidays

"Marley's Ghost"
 -- by John Leech

So once again I keep seeing the lists of stores that will be "open" on Thanksgiving Day. They will be open with their "specials" beginning for the Christmas shopping season..

What they don't bother saying is, they really won't be waiting until 6...7....or 8 Thanksgiving evening to "open". Nope, far from it. They will have been open the whole live long day, especially the 24-hour "super stores" where they doze, but never close...except maybe on Christmas Day... but the number of businesses closed even then continues to shrink.

What they really mean is, that they must fulfill their greed for the almighty dollar in order to satisfy their shoppers greed for things. For stuff. For the latest in electronics...games...videos...the newest toy fad.

Yes, they will be there to collect their millions...maybe even billions...from people who just have to make sure that junior has the latest trend...so that they can "keep up" with their neighbors.

Forget about being thankful for health...for life...for what we already have and for who we are. Don't worry about being thankful for family, loved ones, and friends. Don't worry about being thankful for any of that. You have all kinds of time to be thankful for all of those things.

You can always spend time with family and friends later. Unless you are an employee of those businesses...both large and small... where the company bottom line is much more important than you or your family and friends. The company must be sure to get their nickel so someone else doesn't get it instead.

Yes, you can be thankful after the shopping season is over and done with. Then you can contribute to the company bottom line once again by having your hours cut...or even being laid off until spring. Don't you feel thankful?

It makes me feel as though none of these businesses that insist on feeding their lust for wealth...have never read "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens.

If they have read it, then surely the lesson was lost on them. For when greed is the primary...the most motivating factor....then sooner or later, that greed will lead to your own isolation, and your own loss.

Rest assured though. You won't have a ghost from Christmas past, present, or future showing up to lead you away from ruin.

Then again, all that matters to them and their stockholders is the bottom line, right? People are just another commodity that can be taken and discarded at a whim.

So, rest assured, even though I have to work on Thanksgiving Day for part of the day, I will not be contributing to anyone else having to work by shopping at any store, large or small.

And you can take that to the bank!

European Court: Gay Marriage is not a Human Right

The following excerpts are from C-FAM (Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute)::

NEW YORK, July 25 (C-FAM) The highest human rights court in Europe shattered hopes that it would judicially impose same-sex marriage when it told a male to female transsexual and his wife that a civil union should be good enough for them.

European human rights law does not require countries to “grant access to marriage to same-sex couples,” according to a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in a case that tests the remote boundaries of possibility in law and fact.

The parties to the litigation and supporters of same-sex marriage acknowledge the result was predictable. Nevertheless the judgment has a devastating effect on gay rights in Europe, dashing hopes that same-sex “marriage” can become a reality there. The facts of the case are distinctive.

Heli Hämäläinen of Finland had a sex change operation in 2009 to appear anatomically as a woman, despite having fathered a child with his wife of over 10 years in 2002. Before the operation, he tried to change his legal identity from male to female without success.

He sued before the European court when he was told that it would not be possible so long as he remained married, because Finland does not allow persons of the same sex to marry each other. Hämäläinen and his spouse insist that their religious beliefs prevent them from seeking a divorce and that civil unions do not give them the same benefits as marriage in Finnish law.

The European court was unequivocal. It not only said that European human rights law does not contemplate same-sex marriage, it said that civil unions are good enough for same-sex couples.

The court confirmed that the protection of the traditional institution of marriage is a valid state interest—implicitly endorsing the view that relations between persons of the same sex are not identical to marriage between a man and a woman, and may be treated differently in law.

G.O.P. Animosity For Everything Conservative

The GOP seems intent on dismissing the Tea Party, and conservatives in general, as an embarrassment that is best gotten rid of by any means necessary, even to the point of utilizing dirty tricks such as those used by the Democrats for years.

Paying registered Democrats... many who had already voted in the Democratic primary in Mississippi...to illegally vote again in the Republican primary... is just one example of the GOP's determination to become...as some have called it...Democratic Party #2.

Why did the GOP lose the last two elections to President Barack Obama? Because either they were determined to rid themselves of the conservative "embarrassment" and play to the independents, the undecideds, or they just took the conservatives.... both those in the party and those conservative independents... votes for granted.

What they did accomplish, was to alienate the conservatives altogether, and lost elections that could and would have turned out differently, if they had given us a viable conservative candidate, instead of giving us two wishy-washy flip floppers who gave lip service to whatever group they were in front of at any particular time.

Thus, the GOP by its actions caused conservative voters to either stay home or vote third party. The GOP has apparently not learned anything.

So, GOP take note. The wishy washy candidates you love are not what the voters want. Period. And don't try thinking you can appease us by having every two bit flip flopper you have telling us they are the "conservative choice". Stop thinking we are dumb, and that we are just a bunch of sheep that can be led by someone proclaiming themselves "conservative". We know who the real conservatives are...and are not.

What you, the GOP, fails to understand....or chooses to ignore....is that we conservatives are informed. We know what is going on better than you seem to understand, and apparently, we are more informed and concerned about the direction of this nation than you are because we are living it. Every day.

Democrats File Bill to Overturn Supreme Court Decision Protecting Hobby Lobby | LifeNews.com

The following excerpts are from LifeNews.com:

  • As promised, Senate Democrats filed legislation today to “overturn” the Supreme Court’s decision protecting Hobby Lobby and other companies from being forced to comply with the HHS mandate that compels them to pay for abortion-causing drugs for their employees.
  • The Supreme Court ruled that the Christian-run Hobby Lobby doesn’t have to obey the HHS mandate that is a part of Obamacare. The high court issued a favorable ruling in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a landmark case addressing the Constitutionally guaranteed rights of business owners to operate their family companies without violating their deeply held religious convictions.
  • Now, Senate Democrats want to change the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act in a way that would force companies to pay for birth control, contraception and those abortion-causing drugs.
  • Senators Mark Udall (D-Colo.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.), both abortion advocates, are behind the new legislation and they said, “The Protect Women’s Health from Corporate Interference Act would ban employers from refusing to provide health coverage — including contraceptive coverage — guaranteed to their employees and dependents under federal law.”
  • “After five justices decided last week that an employer’s personal views can interfere with women’s access to essential health services, we in Congress need to act quickly to right this wrong,” Murray said. “This bicameral legislation will ensure that no CEO or corporation can come between people and their guaranteed access to health care, period. I hope Republicans will join us to revoke this court-issued license to discriminate and return the right of Americans to make their own decisions, about their own health care and their own bodies.”
  • Not one Senate Republican has signed on to the legislation, which pro-life groups will undoubtedly strenuously oppose. House Republicans will not take up the bill, making it so the legislation will not reach President Barack Obama, an abortion advocate who would sign it into law.
