It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself. -- Thomas Jefferson

From "Conservative Review": "Regime-friendly NY Times makes big money selling Iran tours"

The following is from an article at “Conservative Review” by Jordan Schachtel:

Regime-friendly NY Times makes big money selling Iran tours

Conflict of interest?

The recent protests in Iran have raised many red flags and questions as to whether the Times is reporting the news objectively. As videos continue to surface on social media, showing masses of people calling for an end to the regime (and even “death  to the Islamic Republic”), the New York Times has downplayed the protests as merely  economic disputes. Moreover, the paper’s Tehran-based reporter was conveniently “on vacation” as the most consequential, anti-regime protests in years spread through Iran like wildfire.
It turns out that The New York Times has a special financial relationship with the Iranian regime, likely unknown to many of its readers. As one of the few U.S.-based Iran tour providers, The Grey Lady delivers unprecedented access to the theocratic nation for a price.
Based on publicly available data  on the New York Times travel website, Conservative Review has analyzed that the organization’s “Iran: Tales from Persia” trip, which is hosted by New York Times journalists and opinion writers, is a cash cow that has reaped millions of dollars in revenue for the publication.
The Times’ travel website lists nine publicly available trips to Iran in 2018, with an average group size of 20 people. The Iran tour costs $7,895 per person (based on double occupancy. Single travelers pay an additional $1,500), plus $425 for internal airfare. The price does not include international airfare.

Egypt Police Rescue Kidnapped Christians

The following excerpts are from AINA.org:

Egyptian police have rescued four Copts who were kidnapped while on their way from a pilgrimage site in Minya province.

Authorities raided an isolated farmhouse in the mountainous area not far from the city of Salamut where the victims were taken away by armed gunmen, the Catholic Fides news agency reported.

Police tracked down the hideout of the kidnappers, who demanded ransom from the victims' families of 600,000 Egyptian pounds ($79,000), at the village of Akoris.

The raiding team stormed the kidnappers' safe house around dawn May 20, and a firefight ensued between authorities and the criminals. Some of the kidnappers managed to escape.

Police found the victims shackled with chains at the farm, and saw indications that they had been tortured by their captors, who waited for ransom to be paid.

The victims said the kidnappers constantly threatened to kill them if their families refused to pay ransom.

Some of the victims even suffered physical abuse as the kidnappers beat them up while waiting for the families to give into their demands.

Three of the victims were adults with ages ranging from 20 to 35 years, while the fourth was a five-year-old child.

The victims had come from the Church of the Virgin Mary in Jabal al-Tair, which was built around 328 A.D. on the orders of Queen Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine.

The church is one of the most popular Marian shrines frequented by the Coptic Christian community in Egypt.

Will a Catholic School Fire a Theology Teacher for "Anti-Gay" Remarks? - Aleteia

The following excerpts are from Aleteia.org:

The future of a high school theology teacher suspended for public comments about gays and traditional marriage is in doubt. An online petition for Patricia Jannuzzi has sought donations for her family’s bills while her bishop released a statement that addressed only her previous and present job status.

An online petition on YouCaring.com said it represented Jannuzzi's family. According to the petition, Januzzi's lawyer told the teacher that her contract will not be renewed for the 2015-16 school year. The update followed a message in which Jannuzzi’s children said the teacher needs health benefits because she had breast cancer.

If They Had Any Guts, All US Papers Would Publish Muhammad Cartoons

The following excerpts are from AINA.org:

The terrorists won today.

That was the message Wednesday from retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters when he appeared on Fox News' "America's News Room."

"It's a terrible morning. It's a bad morning for press freedom, for freedom of information," he said. "It's bad because the terrorists won. The terrorists won this morning."

Peters fears publications will limit their own freedom because of this attack.

...Peters chastised other publications for not having the courage to publish the cartoons of the prophet Muhammed like the French magazine did.

"It was the bravest publication I know. There is not a single magazine in the English-speaking world that had the guts, the courage, to take on Islamist fanaticism and mock these fanatics the way Charlie Hebdo is," he said.

"The correct response to this attack, by all of us in journalism, we pretend to be so brave, if we had guts," Peters said. "Those cartoons would be reprinted on the front page of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times tomorrow. They won't be."

Peters also criticized the Western world as too weak to deal with radical Islam and said our political correctness may lead to our destruction.

The following excerpts are from FoxNews.com:
  • The American citizen being held in Iran for alleged crimes related to his faith and work as a Christian pastor was yanked from a hospital bed, beaten and taken back to one of the Islamic Republic's infamous prisons, his family charges.
  • Pastor Saeed Abedini had spent the past two months in a hospital for injuries allegedly suffered at the hands of guards and inmates in Iran’s Evin and Rajai Shahr prisons when he was once again beaten and hauled back to prison, according to family members who say they witnessed the beating.
  • "This news is devastating to our family,” his wife, Naghmeh Abedini, told FoxNews.com. “This development also came as a complete shock to all of us. Saeed's family, who was present at the hospital when this occurred, witnessed the severe beatings that Saeed received - at one point seeing him collapse before being taken away. "We're very concerned about his health."
  • In March, when Abedini was transferred to a private hospital in Iran, where he was told he would receive further tests for his worsening medical condition as well as surgery for the chronic stomach pain suffered as a result of repeated beatings. Who's To Blame For The Shutdown: Dems or GOP? (A Poll)

It seems with the government shutdown, slim-down (or maybe better called "Every American Is Gonna Suffer Except the Politicians" fiasco), every politician on one side of the aisle is pointing his or her dirty little fingers at the other side in blame.

Each side claims the American people blame one side or the other, so in this poll, who do YOU blame?

Texas Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz Must Repay $1.4 Million After Medicaid Fraud | LifeNews.com

The following excerpts are from LifeNews.com:
  • The Planned Parenthood abortion business must repay $1.4 million dollars in Texas after it was found to have participated in a massive Medicaid fraud scheme.
  • Last year, a former employee of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast has filed a whistleblower’s complaint with the Attorney General of Texas and the U.S. Department of Justice. The PPGC employee alleges that the abortion business engaged in an elaborate Medicaid fraud scheme.
  • Karen Reynolds, who worked as a “health care assistant” from 1999 to 2009 at the Lufkin, Texas, branch of the affiliate formerly known as Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas, submitted company memos and emails to support her charge that PPGC has engaged in a systemwide scheme to bilk Medicaid, Title XX, and the Women’s Health Program of tens of millions of dollars over the course of at least a decade.
  • Reynolds alleges bosses trained employees to bill government agencies for medical and family planning services not rendered, for services no reasonable medical personnel would provide, and – the biggest bombshell – for abortion-related services fudged to appear as if they were not.

The following excerpts are from Catholic Culture's Catholic World News:
  • “Whenever we want to assert ourselves, when we become wrapped up in our own selfishness and put ourselves in the place of God, we end up spawning death,” Pope Francis said as he celebrated Mass for “Evangelium Vitae Day” at the Vatican on June 17.
  • Thousands of pro-life activists gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the morning Mass, as the Vatican called attention to the pro-life cause in an observance organized for the Year of Faith. In his homily the Pope reflected on the day’s Scripture readings, relating them to the cause of life.

Girl Scouts Join Planned Parenthood at Huge Pro-Abortion Conference | LifeNews.com

[The following shows why not only the Boys Scouts, but the Girl Scouts have also lost their way. This is why I won't buy Girl Scout cookies.]

The following excerpts are from LifeNews.com:
  • In May 2013, WAGGGS participated in Women Deliver, a global conference with the purpose of “call[ing] for action to improve the health and well-being of girls and women.”
  • The conference featured speakers such as late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart, philosopher Peter Singer, who supports infanticide and euthanasia, and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Some of the breakout sessions were entitled “Outing and Addressing Abortion Stigma” and “Why I Perform Abortions.” Exhibitors included many abortion and population control advocates such as Amnesty International, Guttmacher Institute, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Marie Stopes International, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, United Nations Population Fund, and WAGGGS.
  • After a while, though, the surprise fades. That’s when reactions start to diverge. I became mad. At only fourteen, I learned of WAGGGS’ advocacy for abortion. I was angry that I had been deceived by an organization I had mistakenly come to trust. My sister became sad. She felt hurt and betrayed when she realized that GSUSA simply is not what it says it is. Instead of remaining neutral on issues like abortion, as they promised, the Girl Scouts fund and hang out with aggressive abortion rights advocates.

Pope tells Argentine Bishops to use doc restricting communion for pro-aborts | LifeSiteNews.com

The following excerpts are from LifeSiteNews.com:
  • In a letter to the Bishops of Argentina sent in late March, Pope Francis directed Argentina’s Bishops to govern the Church there following the Aparecida Document
  • Although the letter did receive some media attention, few outlets mentioned the stress Pope Francis placed on the Aparedica document.   In the letter, the Pope urged the Argentine Assembly of Bishops to use the Aparecida document as their framework. “These are the guidelines we need for this time in history,” he said.
  • The Aparecida document was first presented in 2007 by then-Cardinal Bergoglio – now Pope Francis -- on behalf of the bishops of Latin America. The document made a very clear statement regarding the consequences of supporting abortion - disallowing holy communion for anyone who facilitates an abortion, including politicians.

Frmr Regional Security Officer Nordstrom: 'The Taliban is on the Inside ...

U.S. Mission In Libya In Flames (REUTERS/Esam Al-Fetori)

One would have to be a complete and total moron to believe that the attack on the U.S. mission in Libya was caused by a video. Especially in light of those attacks having occurred on the anniversary of 9/11.

The administration of President Obama must take total responsibility for the attack and the resultant deaths of 4 Americans, including  that of U.S. Ambassador Stevens. Using the death of Osama bin Laden as campaign fodder, was totally irresponsible, and the repeated bragging about his death by Obama and Vice President Joe Biden was bound to inflame terrorist organizations, and is more likely to have brought on the attacks than any video did.

According to a report on Fox News, "the U.S. mission in Libya recorded 230 "security incidents" over a one-year period between 2011 and 2012, according to a State Department document that provides the most expansive view yet of the concerns on the ground in the run-up to the deadly Sept. 11 consulate attack."

If there was that large a number of attacks on the U.S. mission in Libya, then denial of additional security was at the height of arrogance and stupidity of the State Department and this administration. How can we rely on this administration to adequately protect and defend the United States, Americans, and American interests around the world?

Obviously we can't. So the only answer is that Mr. Obama must go.

In today's hearing from the Oversight Committee,  Eric Nordstrom, former Regional Security Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Libya said this at the end of his testimony, in response to how frustrated he was at being denied security in Libya: “For me, the Taliban is on the inside of the building.” (See video below.)

Despite WH Claim, Ban on Sex-Selection Abortion Didn’t Require Abortionist to Determine Motivation for Abortion | CNSNews.com

The following excerpts are from an article by Fred Lucas at CNSNews.com:
  • White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Thursday that President Barack Obama opposed legislation that would ban abortions done to terminate an unborn child of undesired gender because it would put doctors in the position of having to determine a woman's "motivations" for an abortion or else face criminal prosecution.
  • "The administration opposes gender discrimination in all forms," Carney said at a White House press briefing. "But the end result of this legislation would be to subject doctors to criminal prosecution if they fail to determine the motivations behind a very personal and private decision. I think we, again, oppose gender discrimination in all cases. I think our record on that is very clear. The president’s record on that is very clear.”
  • However, Section 5 of the Parental Nondiscrimination Act says, “Nothing in this Act shall be construed to require that a healthcare provider has an affirmative duty to inquire as to the motivation for the abortion, absent the healthcare provider having knowledge or information that the abortion is being sought based on the sex or gender of the child.”
  • The bill was defeated in the House Thursday in a 246 to 168 vote, because it failed to get a two-thirds majority.

Romney's Biggest Hope To Beat Santorum--Newt Gingrich

I saw the following on the CBS News web site:
  • Billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson plans to give another $10 million to the outside group backing the former Georgia lawmaker who is running behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, a source close to Adelson told CBS News.

So billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson is planning to give a $10 million dollar donation to the Super PAC supporting Newt. Why? Because in the minds of many, Newt being still in the race is good for Romney, and is taking away from Santorum. Especially as "Winning our Future", the PAC that supposrts Gingrich, is the same Super PAC that flooded the air waves in South Carolina, the only state that Newt has won.

So, although Newt has no chance to win the nomination, he will be helping Romney (in theory) by proxy, and no doubt make the Republican establishment breathe a sigh of relief. Their hope is that Newt can generate just enough enthusiasm to prevent a Rick Santorum  super surge that might just run away with big wins in the upcoming primaries and on Super Tuesday.

At least that is what I suspect the Romney campaign and the RNC (who is embarassed by conservatives and the Tea Party) are hoping for.

Don't count on it boys. The truth is, Newt's flavor of the week momentum has come and gone, and his campaign is just about ready for the defibrillator. In other words, it's just too late.

Rick Santorum has grabbed the momentum from the remaining candidates, and has also grabbed the attention of the conservative voters. So no matter how the Romney campaign... the Obama campaign... or any super PAC tries to paint him... the average conservative voter connects with Rick and his message, and they are sick and tired of the negative attack ads and media attacks being thrown at the Santorum campaign.

In essence, the attack ads will backfire, rallying the people to give Rick Santorum the additional votes and impetus he needs to successfully obtain the Republican party nomination for President of the United States.

Just sayin'.

Statement by religious scholars on contraceptive coverage policy change

The following is a statement signed by more than three dozen religious scholars and leaders on the Obama administration's announcement regarding its contraceptive coverage policy.

'To Stop the Multiplication of the Unfit' - Michelle Malkin - Townhall Conservative

Please read "To Stop the Multiplication of the Unfit" by Michelle Malkin.

Some excerpts follow with my emphases added:
  • If you aren't creeped out by the No Birth Control Left Behind rhetoric of the White House and Planned Parenthood, you aren't listening closely enough. The anesthetic of progressive benevolence always dulls the senses. Wake up.
  • When a bunch of wealthy white women and elite Washington bureaucrats defend the trampling of religious liberties in the name of "increased access" to "reproductive services" for "poor" women, the ghost of Margaret Sanger is cackling.
  • Sanger also elaborated on her anti-Catholic animus, telling one of Wallace's reporters that New York Catholics had no right to protest the use of their tax dollars for birth city birth-control programs: "(I)t's not only wrong, it should be made illegal for any religious group to prohibit dissemination of birth control -- even among its own members." When Wallace pressed her ("In other words, you would like to see the government legislate religious beliefs in a certain sense?"), Sanger laughed nervously and disavowed the remarks.
  • The Obama administration is crawling with the modern-day heirs of the eugenics movement, from Planned Parenthood golden girl Kathleen Sebelius at the Department of Health and Human Services to the president's prestigious science czar John Holdren -- an outspoken proponent of forced abortions and mass sterilizations and a self-proclaimed protege of eugenics guru Harrison Brown, whom he credits with inspiring him to become a scientist.
  • Brown envisioned a government regime in which the "number of abortions and artificial inseminations permitted in a given year would be determined completely by the difference between the number of deaths and the number of births in the year previous." He urged readers to "reconcile ourselves to the fact that artificial means must be applied to limit birth rates." He likened the global population to a "pulsating mass of maggots."

LACK OF ETHICS IN ECONOMIC STRUCTURES WORSENS THE CRISIS

VATICAN CITY, 30 SEP 2011 (VIS) - On 27 September Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, secretary for Relations with States, addressed the sixty-sixth General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, focusing his remarks on the principal challenges facing the international community: humanitarian emergencies, lack of religious freedom and the economic crisis.

On the first of these subjects, Archbishop Mamberti recalled how "in certain parts of the world, such as the Horn of Africa, we find ourselves facing grave and dramatic humanitarian crises which cause millions of people, mostly women and children, to flee there homes, and many have fallen victim to drought, hunger and malnutrition. The Holy See wishes to renew its appeal to the international community, an appeal repeatedly voiced by Benedict XVI, to increase and support humanitarian policies in those areas".

Christians are the most persecuted religious group

The secretary for Relations with States then went on to consider the question of respect for religious freedom, which he described as "the fundamental way to build peace, to ensure recognition of human dignity and to protect the rights of man".

"Unfortunately, many situations exist in which the right to religious freedom is denied to followers of various religions. At the same time we are seeing an increase in religiously motivated intolerance, and we note that Christians are currently the religious group suffering the greatest number of persecutions on account of their faith. Lack of respect for religious freedom is a threat to security and peace", the archbishop said.

The solution to the problem lies "in a shared commitment to recognise and promote the religious freedom of each individual and each community". This requires "sincere inter-religious dialogue, promoted and practised by representatives of the various religious and supported by governments and international institutions".

Archbishop Mamberti then turned his attention to the global economic crisis. "We know that a fundamental part of the current plight is a lack of ethics in economic structures", he said. "The economy cannot function only through market self-regulation, and even less so through agreements limited to balancing the interests of the most powerful groups. It needs an ethical raison d'etre to ensure that it works for mankind. The idea of producing goods and services ... without seeking to do good - in other words, without ethics - has shown itself to be an illusion, either ingenuous or cynical, but always with fatal results. All economic decisions have moral consequences. The economy needs ethics ... focused on the person and capable of offering prospects to the new generations".

"The Holy See has repeatedly highlighted the need for fresh and profound reflection on the significance and objectives of economic activity, and for a clear-sighted revision of global financial and commercial structures in order to correct their dysfunctions and distortions. This revision of international economic rules must take place within the framework of a global model for development".

Such a model has to take account of the notion of "family of nations" so as to pay greater attention to the needs of poorer peoples. "By its nature a family is a community founded on interdependence and mutual trust. ... Its full development is based not on the supremacy of the strongest, but on care for the weakest, ... and its responsibility extends to future generations". Thus, Archbishop Mamberti concluded, "development strategies must be created which focus on people, favouring solidarity and responsibility towards everyone, including future generations".

On 26 September, the day prior to addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Archbishop Mamberti received a doctorate "honoris causa" from St. John's University in New York.
