The
head of the Chaldean Catholic Church met with Iraq's leading Shiite
Muslim cleric, who expressed sympathy for the plight of Christians
persecuted by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
The
Islamic State is a Sunni Muslim jihadist group.
"I
asked him to call for speeding up the formation of a national unity
government," Patriarch Louis Raphaël I Sako said following
his August 9 meeting with Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, who stated
that persecuted Christians would be welcome to take refuge in his
city of Najaf.
