It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself. -- Thomas Jefferson

U.N. Commission Calls for Legalizing Prostitution Worldwide | CNSNews.com

The following excerpts are from CNSNews.com:

A report issued by the United Nations-backed Global Commission on HIV and the Law; recommends that nations around the world get rid of “punitive” laws against prostitution – or what it calls “consensual sex work” -- and decriminalize the voluntary use of illegal injection drugs in order to combat the HIV epidemic.

The commission, which is made up of 15 former heads of state, legal scholars and HIV/AIDS activists, was convened in 2010 by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and is jointly backed by the United Nations Development Programme and UNAIDS – the Joint U.N. Programme on AIDS/HIV.

The commission recommends repealing all laws that prohibit “adult consensual sex work,” as well as clearly distinguishing in law and practice between sexual trafficking and prostitution.

ABC News Reporting Unprofessional

ABC News has once again proven itself to be the epitome of irresponsible "reporting". It is unconscionable that any self-proclaimed "journalist" would attempt to turn the senseless tragedy in Aurora, Colorado into a political opportunity by the careless and unprofessional actions of Bryan Ross. With his incorrect on air assertion that the shooter had joined the Colorado Tea Party last year, the innocent 52 year old man who had actually joined the Tea Party was therefore identified by ABC News as being the shooter. By failing to properly follow up on his so-called "research", Mr. Ross's incompetent actions could have endangered the innocent man and his family, and most certainly lends further credence to the image of ABC News as being far from reliable or credible.

Expert Notes 'Alarming Data' Connecting Hormonal Contraception and HIV Transmission | Daily News | NCRegister.com

The following excerpts are from an article by Joan Frawley Desmond at National Catholic Register:
  • The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation held a July 11 summit designed to raise an estimated $4 billion to promote contraception in the developing world.
  • The Gates campaign comes amid new research suggesting that use of hormonal contraception doubles the risk of both transmission and acquisition of HIV in regions like sub-Saharan Africa. Register senior editor Joan Frawley Desmond turned to HIV/AIDS expert Dr. Timothy Flanigan to explain how this research is likely to transform family-planning campaigns.
  • Flanigan offers insight into how big global health organizations and foundations approach these issues and how they perceive natural family planning. He also answers a few burning questions: Why is pregnancy presented as a dangerous medical condition? Are there new opportunities to promote natural family planning?
  • Flanigan is a professor of medicine and infectious diseases at Brown University Medical School and practices at Miriam and Rhode Island Hospitals in Providence, R.I. He has been caring for patients with HIV/AIDS for 25 years, and his research on HIV prevention and treatment has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is the father of five and is enrolled in the deacon program for the Providence Diocese.
