Gaza Christians sense pressure to convert to Islam | Reuters

The following excerpt is from Reuters:
  • Two conversions that a Christian family says were forced have strained relations between a tiny Palestinian Christian community in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip and the Muslim majority.
  • Hundreds of Christians have staged protests in Gaza's main church in the past week, demanding the return of members of their community of 2,500, whom they said were kidnapped by Islamist proselytizers and forced to convert to Islam.
  • Christians are blaming the Hamas-affiliated Palestine Scholars Association and its chairman Salem Salama, a senior member of the Islamist Hamas movement.
  • Hamas has run Gaza since its forces seized control of the coastal enclave in 2007, ousting security services loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas of the secular Fatah movement.
  • Hamas officials reject the church's accusations, saying two Christians, a man and a woman, converted freely to Islam. The woman, who had left her husband, brought along her three daughters aged 12, 9, and 6 who are now being taught the Koran.

Hollywood's War on Chicken | CNSNews.com

The following excerpts are from CNSNews.com:

  • The latest solid proof that Hollywood really can't stand traditional Christianity has arrived in an unfolding boycott of Chick-fil-A, a Georgia-based fast-food chain that's rapidly spreading franchises across America.

  • Chick-fil-A demonstrates a public faith by closing all its stores on Sundays and on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's something the left ridicules but something anyone of any faith respects.

  • It's the company's donations through its WinShape Foundation that have launched the intolerant gay left into action. Chick-fil-A has dared to donate their profits to groups like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (Horrors!) and the Marriage and Family Foundation (No!).

  • Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press that, "We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that." This man just has to cut it out. Who does he think he is?

  • But what really infuriated the left was Cathy's comments on a radio show that "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.'"

  • One of Hollywood's first moves came from The Jim Henson Co., the iconic family entertainment group that invented the Muppets. They issued a statement on Facebook proclaiming they were withdrawing any association through kid's-meal toys with the chain. "The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors," they declared. "Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD."

DOJ to Colorado Family: Give Up Your Religion or Your Business | CNSNews.com

The following excerpts are from CNSNews.com:
  • The Justice Department last week presented the Newland family of Colorado--who own Hercules Industries, a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning business--with what amounted to an ultimatum: Give up your religion or your business.
  • “Hercules Industries has ‘made no showing of a religious belief which requires that [it] engage in the [HVAC] business,” the Justice Department said in a formal filing in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
  • In response to the Justice Department’s argument that the Newlands can either give up practicing their religion or give up owning their business, the Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing the family, said in a reply brief: "[T]o the extent the government is arguing that its mandate does not really burden the Newlands because they are free to abandon their jobs, their livelihoods, and their property so that others can take over Hercules and comply, this expulsion from business would be an extreme form of government burden.”

U.N. Commission Calls for Legalizing Prostitution Worldwide | CNSNews.com

The following excerpts are from CNSNews.com:

A report issued by the United Nations-backed Global Commission on HIV and the Law; recommends that nations around the world get rid of “punitive” laws against prostitution – or what it calls “consensual sex work” -- and decriminalize the voluntary use of illegal injection drugs in order to combat the HIV epidemic.

The commission, which is made up of 15 former heads of state, legal scholars and HIV/AIDS activists, was convened in 2010 by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and is jointly backed by the United Nations Development Programme and UNAIDS – the Joint U.N. Programme on AIDS/HIV.

The commission recommends repealing all laws that prohibit “adult consensual sex work,” as well as clearly distinguishing in law and practice between sexual trafficking and prostitution.

ABC News Reporting Unprofessional

ABC News has once again proven itself to be the epitome of irresponsible "reporting". It is unconscionable that any self-proclaimed "journalist" would attempt to turn the senseless tragedy in Aurora, Colorado into a political opportunity by the careless and unprofessional actions of Bryan Ross. With his incorrect on air assertion that the shooter had joined the Colorado Tea Party last year, the innocent 52 year old man who had actually joined the Tea Party was therefore identified by ABC News as being the shooter. By failing to properly follow up on his so-called "research", Mr. Ross's incompetent actions could have endangered the innocent man and his family, and most certainly lends further credence to the image of ABC News as being far from reliable or credible.

Expert Notes 'Alarming Data' Connecting Hormonal Contraception and HIV Transmission | Daily News | NCRegister.com

The following excerpts are from an article by Joan Frawley Desmond at National Catholic Register:
  • The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation held a July 11 summit designed to raise an estimated $4 billion to promote contraception in the developing world.
  • The Gates campaign comes amid new research suggesting that use of hormonal contraception doubles the risk of both transmission and acquisition of HIV in regions like sub-Saharan Africa. Register senior editor Joan Frawley Desmond turned to HIV/AIDS expert Dr. Timothy Flanigan to explain how this research is likely to transform family-planning campaigns.
  • Flanigan offers insight into how big global health organizations and foundations approach these issues and how they perceive natural family planning. He also answers a few burning questions: Why is pregnancy presented as a dangerous medical condition? Are there new opportunities to promote natural family planning?
  • Flanigan is a professor of medicine and infectious diseases at Brown University Medical School and practices at Miriam and Rhode Island Hospitals in Providence, R.I. He has been caring for patients with HIV/AIDS for 25 years, and his research on HIV prevention and treatment has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is the father of five and is enrolled in the deacon program for the Providence Diocese.

Report: Stem Cell Research Debate Over, Embryonic Side Lost | LifeNews.com

The following excerpt is from LifeNews.com:
  • A new report released today by the Charlotte Lozier Institute takes a comprehensive look at the stem cell research debate and comes to the conclusion that proponents of embryonic stem cell research have lost.
  • The new report analyzes the history and trajectory of funding for stem cell research by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine and it reveals the scientific community now views morally unproblematic alternatives to embryonic stem cells as the best hope for progress toward effective treatments and therapies.
  • Launched in 2004 as a response to the Bush Administration’s unwillingness to force taxpayers to fund new embryonic stem cell research that destroys human life to obtain stem cells for research that still hasn’t helped a single patient, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine funneled $75.7.million in California state taxpayer funds to embryonic stem cell research projects in its first year.
  • However, the Charlotte Lozier Institute report notes CIRM’s growing preference to fund ethical stem cell projects is evidence of the scientific community’s acceptance that the best hope for progress lies in the funding and pursuit of morally unproblematic alternatives like adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells.

Planned Parenthood Strategist to Head DNC Platform Committee | LifeNews.com

The following excerpt is from LifeNews.com:
  • A paid Planned Parenthood strategist will head the Democratic National Committee’s platform committee when party leaders gather later this summer to nominate pro-abortion President Barack Obama for another four-year term.
  • Political consultant Andy Grossman was named today as the National Platform Director for the Democratic National Convention’s platform panel, according to a Politico report. Grossman is head of Grossman Solutions, a political consulting firm that the nation’s biggest abortion business has hired as a strategist for its political operations.
  • Grossman also headed the Common Purpose Project Health Care Working Group, which Politico indicates played a big role in getting the Obamacare law approved that pro-life groups universally opposed because of its abortion-funding and rationing components.

Episcopal Bishops Clear Way to Ordain Transgenders | CNSNews.com

The following excerpts are from an article by Rachel Zoll on CNSNEWS.COM:
  • The Episcopal Church has cleared the way to ordain transgendered people.
  • Episcopal bishops approved an official prayer service for blessing same-sex couples Monday at a national convention that also cleared the way for transgender ordination.
  • At the Episcopal General Convention in Indianapolis, the House of Bishops voted 111-41, with three abstentions, to authorize a provisional rite for same-sex unions for the next three years. The liturgy next goes to convention's deputies for their authorization.
  • In a separate vote Monday, the full convention approved new anti-discrimination language for transgendered clergy candidates and church members. Some dioceses already ordain transgendered people or elect them to positions of parish leadership. However, advocates for the amendment argued they needed an explicit statement of acceptance as the churchwide policy.
  • The Rev. Carla Robinson, who is transgendered and a vicar of All Saints Church in Seattle, said she was lucky to have the backing of parishes and bishops when she was considering ordination, but she said others haven't had the same support.
  • "I stand here as a priest today because my diocese specifically said that my gender identity and expression didn't disqualify me from the discernment process," Robinson said from the floor of the convention. "I ask that as a church we do the same for my trans sisters and brothers."
